The Honda CM-series may not be as familiar and legendary as the CB-series, but the Honda CM450 still is an interesting machine. The first bike in the CM-series was launched in 1979 and had a 395cc twin cylinder engine, which had a lot of similarities with the CB400T. But instead of two valves per cylinder, the CM had three (2 intake, 1 exhaust). This was unique back then and gave the engine a lot more power. In 1982 the engine was bored out to 447cc and was named CM450, the bike you see here.

This engine delivered a whopping 47hp and back in the days, this was pretty serious from such a capacity. Triumph needed the 650cc from their Bonneville to deliver such power that time… But unless it was an innovative machine (Honda experimented with their Hondamatic on these models), it was never a big sales success, so I was glad to see this custom CM450, since most of these bikes end up in classic bike collections.

Max & Jérôme, owners of custom motorcycle workshop and café HIDE Brussels needed to build a bike for The Nasty Mondays Barcelona, a Rock & Roll party that takes place every Monday in Club Apolo. For one time this party was relocated in The Bloody Louis, a famous nightclub in Brussels. DJ Sören (on of the host DJ’s) used this Honda CM450 custom to ride the red carpet for the opening of the party. This is why they named the bike “The Nasty”.

Max: “the bike is a blend from different Honda’s of the 80s. The frame is from a CB250N, the gas tank from a CB125 Twin, the (lowered) front fork from a CB550 and the engine is from the CM450”. To be different than a lot of other custom bikes, they’ve chopped the rear end and fitted a cool Brooks England saddle. Together with the custom Inox exhaust which ends just under the Brooks saddle, the rear end makes this a real one of a kind machine.
