In this post I’ll explain how you can make your own motorcycle wheel truing stand for just a few bucks. Of course you can just buy one, but why not make it? That’s what BikeBrewers.com is all about, isn’t it? Since it’s a very visual task, I used mainly images with instructions in it to explain the building process of your wheel truing stand.

Got the spokes in place? Check out this post if you still need to lace your wheels. .

Ingredients for Your Motorcycle Wheel Truing Stand

Materials

  • Some wooden beams (or just one long one which you can saw)
  • Wood screws
  • Wood glue
  • 4 roller blade bearings
  • 2 angle irons
  • Some bolts and nuts
  • A little motor oil

Tools

  • Pencil
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill press (with some bits of course)
  • Center punch
  • Saw
  • Box cutter
  • Vise

Important: it’s very important to make all the holes as precise as possible. You can do this by using a center punch and making pilot holes. A vise in combination with your drill press would be ideal.

Try to be as accurate as possible and take all the time you need. If you have any tools or a way to make this easier; go ahead! All holes need to be centered on all sides.

In order to make aligning the wheel you can add a marker or install a dial gauge (this is the most accurate).

And that’s it! You’ve got yourself a motorcycle wheel truing stand. You can use the axle of your bike to keep the wheel in place, but if this is not working for you, you can buy an axle like this:

This is one of the cheapest ways to build yourself a motorcycle wheel truing stand. Of course, if you know your way around with materials like steel, you can use the same concept. And if you’re not up to building one yourself, you can always buy one. I can recommend the Tusk truing stand.

What keeps the uprights perpendicular, one screw and some glue? Needs bracing.
