I’ll admit it right off the bat: I should’ve discovered Iron Motors a long time ago. This year marked its 15th edition, and somehow, it was my first time at the iconic event held at Circuit Carole, just outside Paris. As someone who loved the old Café Racer Festival at Montlhéry (and still misses it dearly since CaféRacer Magazine sadly folded), I wasn’t sure what to expect.

But Iron Motors more than filled that gap – with some added octane.

The event strikes a perfect balance between a laid-back gathering and a full-throttle celebration of vintage motorcycle culture. It’s got everything you’d hope for: a vast variety of classic bikes, loads of unique customs, and a noticeable focus on vintage racing machines.

The tagline says it all: “Iron Motors – Motorcycles with character only.” And they mean it. You won’t find showroom-polished plastic rockets here – just bikes with stories, soul, and plenty of well-earned patina. From gritty café racers to wild customs and purpose-built vintage race bikes, every corner of the paddock offers something worth staring at.

And the “village” set up in the paddock offers all kinds of treasures for lovers of classic and custom machines – from rare parts to retro gear, vintage accessories, and even wine with motorcycle-themed labels (because, bien sûr, it’s France).

You’ll also find plenty of club stands, ranging from classic Norton lineups to track-ready Vespa scooters…

And above all, a laid-back yet passionate crowd that’s here to celebrate the ride, not to chase trophies.

The Track: Technical and Fun

Circuit Carole might not be long, but it’s packed with corners and short straights – a technical track that keeps things engaging. And for this crowd, it’s not about racing or lap times, it’s about enjoying your bike and sharing the track with fellow enthusiasts. Together with around 350 other motorcycles, I took part in the so-called demo sessions – open, relaxed, and all about fun.

One thing to note: it gets windy at Carole. When we arrived Friday night to set up the joint BikeBrewers – Amsterdam Classic Riders – Hard Motos stand, we quickly learned how important it is to anchor everything properly. Big thanks to our neighbors – the French chapter of the 59 Club – for lending a hand with unloading the bikes, and to Stephane from Paris Classic Riders, who helped us secure the tent before it had the chance to take off like a parachute.

And yes, that same wind gives the track a little extra challenge — especially on those two short straights, where a gust can really nudge you off your line.

The Weekend Experience

Saturday brought the full Iron Motors atmosphere: buzzing paddocks, track sessions, good conversations, and a festive vibe.

For most of the weekend, the weather was fine with even some sunny episodes – it’s only mid-April, after all! The paddock was transformed into a small moto-town, with around a hundred stands and close to a thousand bikes on display. From finely restored café racers to gritty old racers, every machine had a place and a story.

Saturday night featured the now-traditional aperitif concert, and while a brief shower tried to crash the party, 70 liters of kir and a rock duo kept the vibe alive. Camping on-site is easy, and there are plenty of affordable places to stay nearby.

Classic Machines 2025

If, after reading this short piece, you regret missing it – here’s another event where you can catch the same atmosphere and action: Classic Machines, by the same organizers, is back for its second edition on August 26–27 at the stunning Mas du Clos circuit in the Creuse region.

Expect the same blend of passionate riders, characterful bikes, and a nice atmosphere – all in an unbeatable location. Entry is open now and closes on May 28, so if you’re interested, head over to www.classicmachines.fr for all the details.

Enfin…

Iron Motors isn’t just an event — it makes you feel part of a community. From the buzzing paddock to the laid-back club displays, and the sound of classic engines echoing around the circuit – it’s a reminder of what makes motorcycling so addictive. The authenticity, the shared passion, and the friendliness of everyone there really stood out.

Whether you ride, wrench, or are just a fan of two-wheeled history – Iron Motors is definitely worth the trip. I know I’ll be back!
